Nancy’s novels, set in 17th century Ireland, are tales of loyalty, honor, intrigue and betrayal that play out against the backdrop of the Stuart dynasty in England and the threat of English civil war. Nancy’s background in journalism has made her adept at research and crafting human stories from historical facts. When she began writing fiction, she knew it would be historical, but she was tired of reading about the English Tudors. Being of Irish descent herself, she studied her own family’s heritage and the history of Ireland, and she found an ideal place and time in which to set her stories. In this episode, Nancy discusses her writing journey, how her parents influenced her writing career, and why research, for her, is like treasure hunting.
