In this week’s episode of The Bookshop at the End of the Internet, author Kay Dew Shostak talks about writing southern fiction. Kay has written a contemporary series set in the small town of Chancey, GA, as well as a series set along the northern coast of Florida. Kay has always been an avid reader, and she grew up dreaming about becoming an author. But it wasn’t until she was married and a mother of three that she gave writing serious consideration. One night at a book club meeting, Kay made an innocent comment about the book being discussed. She asked, “Don’t you wish you’d written that book?” Her question was met with blank stares, and she realized that not everyone dreamed about becoming a writer. Kay stopped dreaming, started writing and hasn’t looked back. Tune in to hear Kay discuss her writing journey, the magic of hearing her story in audio book form, and why setting is so important to southern authors.
